Origin and heritage

Nachi no Ichi Go is a legendary representative of the Kishu Ken breed, considered one of the most influential dogs in the breed’s history. His legacy shaped the modern Kishu Ken, and nearly all quality bloodlines today carry his genetics.
Born in the Nachiurago region of the Kii Peninsula, he embodied the best traits of the native hunting dogs: strength, endurance, loyalty, and natural instincts. His name translates to “The First of Nachi”, symbolizing his primacy and uniqueness in the lineage.

Japan’s Natural Treasures

In 1934, the Japanese Dog Preservation Society (NIPPO) established the official Nihon Ken Standard for six native Japanese breeds, which were later designated as National Natural Monuments by the Ministry of Culture. These include:

Kishu Ken Strength in Silence

The Kishu Ken is known for its soboku (素朴) — a quality that combines natural beauty, simplicity, and inner strength. These dogs were traditionally used to hunt wild boar and deer in the “ichi-juu, ikku” style — “one gun, one dog.” Among the six native breeds, the Kishu is considered unmatched in its hunting ability.
